Carolyn Roble Obituary

Columbiana – Carolyn Lee Roble, 74, of Columbiana, was surrounded by her loved ones as she passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

She was born on April 17, 1950, in Youngstown, to the late Robert C. and Nancy L. Fink.

Carolyn was a 1968 graduate of Boardman High School. After staying home to raise her three loving children, she returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Youngstown State University in 1998.

Carolyn loved children and working with her hands. She worked as a long-term substitute teacher with the Beaver Local School District for nearly 22 years before retiring. She was a dedicated volunteer and member of the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center where she established a nature crafts program for children. Her favorite spot at the Wildlife Center was in the Discovery Room, where kids of all ages learn by touching and doing. She also volunteered with the Calcutta Lions Club where she enjoyed working with the Leos.

Carolyn was a talented artist and businesswoman who loved crafts and excelled as a recognized ceramicist. Her salt dough, scherenschnitte, and copper tooling could be seen at Shaker Woods and Penn's Colonies while her ceramics were most notably displayed at the Butler Art Museum and her personal installation at the Trumbull Art Gallery (TAG). She also attended the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conferences. Carolyn enjoyed flower gardening, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Mostly, she loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren who affectionately called her Nana.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Herbert J. Roble, whom she married on May 5, 1979; two sons, Nathan Cline of Columbus, and Ross (Sandra) Cline of Austintown; daughter, Amanda Roble of Columbus; sister, Judy Hill of Youngstown; two grandsons, Parker and Wyatt Cline, and a special nephew, Iann Hill of Berlin Center.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, at Grace Church in Columbiana. Services will follow at 6:00 pm, with Reverend Dr. Stephen Cramer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Carolyn can be mailed to Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center (BCWEC), PO Box 2212, East Liverpool, OH 43920.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana.

I am so sorry to share this obituary for Carolyn Fink Roble. Carolyn and I reconnected at YSU where she took a class in Metalsmithing that I taught. After that, I followed her interest in creating amazing ceramic art works. She was an extremely kind person and a very talented artist. Another amazing classmate gone too soon.

So very sorry to read this. Carolyn was in my home room starting in Jr high and I don't think I ever met a kinder and sweet person!  I never ran into her after we graduated but, have wondered about her occasionally. So very sad...........
