BOARDMAN – David Lee Hays, 68, passed away Nov. 1, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Dave was born in Youngstown, the son of the late Reynold “Bud” Hays and Wilma Erb Hays, on Dec. 31, 1948.

He was a graduate of Boardman High School and later Youngstown State University. He was the co-owner of Billy the Kid Bar in the Uptown of Youngstown, and went on to work at Murdoch and Sons and JC Penny in the Eastwood Mall doing maintenance. He had a knack for tinkering and fixing things.

Dave enjoyed spending time at Pymatuning Lake, sailing his catamaran, creating stained glass, collecting old toys and pedal cars, and traveling with his brother over the years to swap meets and soccer events all over the country. In recent years, he enjoyed trips to Mexico, Texas, Florida, and out west to the national parks and the Bonneville Salt Flats with his brother.

He is survived by a brother, William Hays of Boardman; three nieces, Heather (Jeff ) Rios of Keller, Texas, Amanda (Kevin) Haase and Hillary (John) Hays; two great-nieces, Emma and Lily Haase; and two great-nephews, Alex and Luca Haase all of Boardman.

Family and friends will gather from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at the Schiavone Funeral Home.
