CANFIELD - A funeral service will be held for George J. Chlebus, Jr., 68, who passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday evening, April 29, 2019, at the UPMC Medical Center in Pittsburgh.

George was born on May 14, 1950, in Youngstown, a son of George and Stella (Dubiel) Chlebus.

He was a 1968 graduate of Boardman High School who, upon graduation, served as a mechanic in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Luiseno. Following his military service, George became a Journeyman Pipefitter while employed at the General Motors Lordstown Assembly plant from 1973 until the plant closure in 2019. During this time, he supported his family and was a loving father helping to instill moral values and a strong work ethic upon three sons.

George enjoyed bicycling, gardening, and campfires; exploring wilderness areas on canoeing and camping adventures with his family; visiting historic sites, and researching American pioneers and WWII era history. He was a skilled craftsman who built detailed models of tall ships, paddlewheels, and navy vessels. George also enjoyed tinkering with antique steam engines as well as collecting and refurbishing hurricane and railroad lanterns.

George is survived by three sons, George III (Sara) Chlebus of Rogers, Brian Chlebus of Columbiana, and Kevin Chlebus of Canfield; and five grandchildren, Emilee, Kyle, Janie, Cory, and Alayna.

Besides his children and grandchildren, George leaves four brothers, Stanley (Donna) Chlebus of Berlin Center, Edward (Scarlett) Chlebus of Austintown, James (Kathy) Chlebus of Syracuse, N.Y., and John (Sheila) Chlebus of Brookfield, in addition to several nieces and nephews and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Paradise Church located at 10020 New Buffalo Road in Canfield, OH. Family and friends may call at the church for one hour immediately prior to the service. George will be laid to rest alongside family during a private ceremony at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, OH.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George be made to the Friends of Beaver Creek State Park, P.O. Box 2063, East Liverpool, OH 43920.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Davis-Becker Funeral Home of Boardman.
